  Mealtime no longer takes forever! Yea!
  • Ever since our little one started eating "real food" mealtime has taken forever. Almost every meal was spent with my husband and I refocusing her to eat her food. Age appropriate, yes. Fun for the family? No. My mom gave this product to our kid for her second birthday. Even at two she gets it. She loves the colored lights and sounds. We haven't had an epic mealtime since. We remind her when the color changes and that's it. When the red light blinks, dinner is over. Simple and effective.

  I hope it lasts a long time because I see it being used for homework, cleaning, baths, brushing teeth even. Easy to program and use. One thing I would improve, however, is to put the program buttons on the bottom instead of the side. Buttons in full view are just too tempting for a little kid.
  
  

  • The product is excellent! It engages children easily and keeps them focused as the timer's lights blink on and off from green, to yellow, to the ominous red. They really get a kick out of the timer's "Time's Up!" voice. The timer seems to work with high school students (with which I work the most) and their time management has improved. It's great how it's durable, portable, lightweight, and digital. I wish it had a rechargeable battery pack (it can really drain even the best-quality batteries if used constantly) and the ability to record customized messages. However, the product gets the job done and is fun and easy to use. Even adults have asked if they can use it for their own.

Directions:

Gaitspots can be used on bare feet or over a pair of shoes, depending on the child's size. For heelstrike, slip the elastic loop over the top of the foot, and then adjust so that the squeaker fits squarely over the bottom heel. Pull the hook and loop strap snugly to close. For push off, reverse the squeaker so that it is over the ball (base of the toes) of the foot.

Here are some great ideas for using your Gaitspots:

• For toe-walkers: place the Gaitspots in the heelstrike position for auditory feedback when dorsi flexing the ankle.
• To encourage push off: place the Gaitspots in the push off position to promote plantarflexion with tiptoe walking.
• Use Gaitspots for auditory feedback when jumping with two feet, or use a single Gaitspot for hopping.
• Be creative with your Gaitspot trainings. Have the child step from target to target by using tape, chalk, or dry erase markers to designate stepping areas.
• Work on motor planning by using the auditory feedback from the squeaker to promote auditory sequencing and timing.
  
• Place one Gaitspot in the heelstrike position on one foot, and place the other on the opposite foot in the push off position. Have the child work on a motor planning sequence such as heel-toe, heel-toe (alternating feet so that they hear the squeaker from the corresponding Gaitspot). You can continue to increase the complexity of the sequencing such as heel-heel, toe-toe, or heel-heel-toe-heel-toe, etc.

• Practice animal walks using Gaitspots. Use the heelstrike position to promote the heel up walking. These can be the "heavy" animals like horses. Use the push off position for tiptoe walking. These can be the "light" animals like birds.

Instructions: The recommended installation is to lay the weight flat on a table and roll it up around a pencil, securing it with the hook&loop strip. The PW can be positioned 1/2” above the pencil point and be used as a “grip”, or it can be positioned 1-2” up from the pencil point and the user can grip the pencil itself. Both positions are effective.

Colors/Size/Packaging: The PW is available in blue. It is approximately 3” x 5” (flat), and about 7/8” diameter when wrapped around a writing instrument. It weights approximately ¼ pound. Sold individually.

Comments: The PW can be used with most writing instruments or coloring tools. It can be used alone or in conjunction with most of the commercially available pencil grippers. Hand washing and air-drying is recommended. To prevent the PW from slipping on smooth glossy pencils, wrap a rubber band around the pencil prior to rolling on the PW (see photo).
